"Hi, this is Shane Speal and I think that C. B. Gitty's fret templates are one are one of the best tools he's come out with in the past year.

They save me so much time. They are beautifully accurate and with the addition of a little mod that I do, they make things go real fast.

Now check out this mod.

I put two pieces, thin strips of wood on each side of this (fretting template)

I just use tiny, little screws; the screws that go into a guitar tuner."

"And the reason the wood is like that (fastened to the long sides of the template) is, suppose this is going to be the neck of the cigar box guitar (holds 1 x 2 lumber)

It fits right in there perfectly (in between the wood strips)."

Fitting neck into template

"So, let me show you how easy these fret templates are.

Imagine that's where our nut is going to be, right there (draws line near the top of the example neck)

All I do is take my fret template, slam it right down there, and then using a nice, sharp pencil... it is crisp lines, exactly where they need to be."

Drawing fret lines

"Now, I don't install frets in mine. I use a woodburning pen to get fret markers because I go for the traditional slide cigar box guitar instrument.

Pop that out (removes neck from template) and you have exactly where your fret lines are supposed to be."

"So, you know what? There's my endorsement.

This is probably one of the best things that Gitty has come out with in the past year.

For Gitty, this is Shane Speal.

Thanks!"

Conclusion

Using two pieces of scrap wood and some tiny screws, Shane made the C. B. Gitty fretting template an even more useful tool to keep in your cigar box guitar workshop.

Now, whether for a fretless cigar box guitar or one to be fretted, you can zip through marking fret lines with confidence.
