5.5-inch "Lightning" Spun Metal Cigar Box Resonator Cones by Charles Atchison
We now have STAINLESS STEEL cover plates for these cones! Click here to check them out.
This is a spun aluminum or copper cigar box resonator cone, manufactured by hand in the USA by CBG craftsman and author Charles Atchison. These are high quality cones, a bit thicker in construction than some of the others available, and they really ring like a bell. This one is 5.5 inches in diameter (139.7mm) and fits nicely into a 5-inch hole (127mm). The overall depth is about 0.5" (12.7mm). The smaller size of this cone makes it perfect for use in standard-size cigar boxes (recommended width of at least 6 inches for best results.
We also have a larger 7-inch "Thunder" model, for use in larger cigar boxes, silverware boxes, wine boxes and other such things.
A resonator cone is a great way to take your cigar box guitar building to the next level, and tend to be highly sought after by buyers. These American-made cones are a great value, and we are proud to carry them!
About the Cover Plates:
These resonator cover plates are laser-cut from 1/8" birch plywood, and are designed and manufactured in the USA in the C. B. Gitty workshops. We designed these covers specifically to fit these cones, and they make a great addition to your special CBG resonator build. These plates can be stained, painted or otherwise finished as desired, or just lightly sand and apply a little linseed oil for a more natural look. Their outer diameter is 5 5/8" and the center opening is 2 inches. Each one has eight screw holes for mounting (screws not included) - you can countersink the screw holes if desired for a flatter mounting option. Please note that the resonator cones do not come with holes so you'll be doing a little drilling to get these mounted. We do not include screws with these plates.
