Fun and Easy-to-play One-string Canjos - Acoustic or Electric - Choose Your Can Design!
These are fun, easy-to-play acoustic canjos, offered under the American Canjo Company(tm) brand by C. B. Gitty. These instruments are hand-made in the C. B. Gitty workshops in New Hampshire, USA. Canjos are a cross between a mountain dulcimer and a banjo, with a decorative tin can as the resonator. These instruments are well-made and look great - all at a good affordable price.
We offer a range of can designs to choose from, including vintage food can labels, old advertisements, patriotic designs and more. The displayed photo will update as you choose each design from the drop-down list, so you can see see what they look like. Choosing the electric option means your canjo will come installed with a piezo pickup and jack, so you can plug it into an amplifier. Adding the 60-page songbook (which includes a how-to-play section) is a great way to begin picking out recognizable tunes on your canjo right from the start.
We also include a free 2-page "How-to-Play" guide by C. B. Gitty, along with two picks and a spare string! Also be sure to check out the Canjo Song Tablature section of the knowledgebase over at www.CigarBoxGuitar.com for an ever-growing list of popular and traditional songs you can play on these instruments!
This instrument is fretted diatonically, which means that all of the "in between" notes are left out - so it is almost impossible to hit a "wrong" note on it. It puts out a great twangy sound, perfect for practicing or back porch pickin'.
These canjos are strung with an unwound plain steel string of .012" or .013" gauge. The special metal cans are labeled with custom-designed automotive-grade vinyl decals. The frets used on the neck are nickel-silver "Medium" frets.
