Product Description

20160114-210059-2000px.jpgOriginal art straight from the streets of New Orleans.  We were there.  (There's a story behind this shirt...)

Shane and I were walking down Frenchman Street in the heart of New Orleans on a rainy night when we approached a decrepit street artist huddled under a storefront canopy.

We were jazzed...we just closed out the first night of the NOLA cigar box guitar fest.

The artist was creating paintings using rainwater and nicotine-tinged fingerpaint from a shaky hand.  Skeletons were his thing.  "Can you make one with a cigar box guitar?" Shane asked as he pulled his own instrument out of a wet gig bag as a reference.

"Ummrrr..." he grumbled as he squinted through glazed eyes to inspect the cigar box guitar.  "Ok.  Just wait here while I do it."

We waited...for four hours as Connan slowly and meticulously painted Blue Voodoo Boogie.

Four long hours.

The rain never stopped.

Connan is the real deal. A veteran cast aside by his country (in his version of the tale), he spends as much time shouting at tourists as he does drawing. He's rude, crude and more than a little crazy - but just possibly a genius underneath all the crust.

Through some weird twist of voodoo magic, he took a liking to Ben and Shane and cigar box guitars - and they to him. They all sat for several hours just out of the pouring rain, on the sidewalk outside the Dat Dog hotdog shop on Frenchman Street, one warm January night while Connan created this. (Shane's wife Melissa was there too, and was one hell of a sport during the whole soggy adventure).

We are very proud to be able to bring this unique artwork to you in the form of a T-shirt. A portion of the proceeds will be set aside for Connan, and we'll get it to him as best we can - maybe during next year's NOLA CBG fest. This artwork is reproduced with Connan's permission.
