Description

This amazing piece of fine art was painted by Amzie Adams based on an old photo of a "spasm band" in New Orleans from the late 1800's. Showing a trio of young black musicians using homemade instruments (a cigar box guitar, drum kit and drain pipe saxophone), this print captures a unique moment in time in one of America's most storied and vibrant cities.

These prints are LIMITED EDITION and have been SIGNED AND NUMBERED in gold ink by the artist.

This is a 12 x 18" full-color high-quality art print suitable for framing. Purchases of this print not only adds a superb piece of fine art to your collection, it also supports Amzie's music and art, as well as our Historical Research & Preservation Intiative, where we actively dig up forgotten pieces of handemade musical history.

These prints will come packaged loosely rolled in a cardboard shipping tube.

The story behind the art and the artist: Amzie Adams has been a public figure in New Orleans' French Quarter for upwards of half a century, with his flamboyant dress and wacky homemade instruments. He started building cigar box instruments (dulcimers) in the late 60's and has built, played and sold uncounted numbers of them since. He is an artist, performing musician, parade leader and street personality of the Quarter. Ben "C. B. Gitty" Baker and Shane Speal met him down there during the 2016 New Orleans Cigar Box Guitar Festival, and they knew right away that Amzie's art needed to be seen. In March of 2016 Ben contacted Amzie to talk about commissioning a cigar box guitar-related painting, and this print is the result.
