Perhaps the most important aspects in headstock construction, is getting the proper break angle for the strings to get to the nut. One of the easiest ways to do this is with a string retainer bar like this one.

These bars are 1.65 inches / 42mm in length and about 0.20 inches / 5.2mm in diameter. The matching screws (2 per bar) are 0.375 inches / 10mm in length.

The curved side of the bar rests down on the strings and height is adjusted with the screws on either side, giving fine control over the angle.
