Description
This set of specially designed parts will help you make the best use of your C. B. Gitty Hubcap Reso Cone (or regular paint can lid) on your special instrument build. Ben "Gitty" Baker designed these mounting ring systems to make it as easy as possible to use his "Hubcap" spun paint can lid reso cones - no longer do you have to worry about cutting exactly round holes, or having gaps when using cover plates. This listing is for the two rings (mounting and spacer) and hold-down tabs shown in the photos - the Hubcap cone is shown for reference only.
These parts are cut from 1.5mm thick (roughly 1/16 inch) aircraft-grade birch plywood. While flexible, they should be handled with care and not bent, or they may break. The parts may have some staining marks left over from the laser-cutting process, which can be sanded off of any exposed surface. The cut edges will also have some light charring which may rub off on hands/other parts - this can easily be removed via a light sanding. We leave the wood bare/unfinished so that you can apply stains, varnishes, paint or other finishes/designs as desird.
Here are some suggestions of what you'll want to go along with this mounting system:
Add a Hubcap Cone - if you don't already have a Hubcap Reso Cone, choose either the half-gallon (5-inch) or gallon (6.25-inch) size
Or, add a paint can lid - if you want to use a regular paint can lid instead of one of our spun Hubcap cones, pick the size you want here.
Add a Cover Plate - dress up your reso build even more with one of our original cover plates! Check out this listing for all of the options.

This is my first cigar box build, as well as my first instrument build of any kind... or wood working now that I think of it. I was inspired by resonator guitars that I have seen online as well as the British CBG documentary that eventually gave me the encouragement I needed to try and build my own. A buddy of mine introduced me to the Japanese method of Yakisugi a few years ago when he helped us repair a side gate on our house. It involves burning wood to change its properties for insect and rot resistance. Some would call this "Shou Sugi Ban" but I discovered that its a mistranslation of the Yakisugi kanji, seriously type both into Google Translate and laugh at the result! ... anywho, I thought it might go well on a cigar box guitar, though I was extremely nervous to buy a pricey kit and then light it on fire. The build itself was easy to follow the instructions, though I was very confused on where to place the piezo pickup, CB Gitty doesn't offer any advice when using a resonator. I have tried this build with a practice amp and it seems to be doing really well, though a bit on the quieter side, felt nice finally turning the amp up! I have added a lot of the specific build commentary on the individual build pictures, so make sure to check those out if you're wanting to Yakisugi your next project. I know I'm calling mine "Cinder" from now on, seems fitting ;)

"Hubcap Howler" Resonator Guitar Kit - Authentic Blues, Chrome Sealed-Gear Tuners for 3-String Cigar Box Guitars, CLEARANCE: 1930's Parlour-style 3-string Cigar Box Guitar Tailpiece - TITANIUM, Hubcap Reso Cone Mounting Ring System, Hubcap Reso Cone Cover Plates - Choose Design & Style!, Basic Pre-Wired Piezo & Jack Harness - Made in the USA!
