Blues Giants Series: Muddy Waters - Custom-engraved 2 1/2-inch Cow Bone Slide

We're honoring the greatest Blues artists of all time, with this collectible line of "Blues Giants" engraved cow bone slides!

Repurposed animal bones have always been popular amongst blues musicians for use as guitar slides, and these custom, heirloom-quality laser-engraved slides honor that tradition and the music they made.

The design is etched and burned directly into the bone, creating a textured surface that will not wear off or fade. The other side of the slide is smooth, which in most cases will be the side you want to press against the strings.

This particular slide pays tribute to the one and only Muddy Waters, born McKinley Morganfield, the powerhouse master of the blues who is credited with establishing the Chicago Blues style in the post-WWII Windy City. He was born near the Stovall Plantation in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1913, and was inspired by nearby bluesmen Son House and Robert Johnson. His style inspired many other blues and rock artists, including Eric Clapton, Canned Heat, Bob Dylan, the Allman Brothers and countless others. One example: the Rolling Stones actually named themselves after Muddy's 1950 hit "Rollin' Stone". His impact on modern American music is hard to overstate - in 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him as #17 on their list of greatest artists of all time.

These slides are produced in very small batches, in a time-intensive process requiring careful cleaning, setup and final inspection. Each one is carefully sanded and retouched after engraving to get the shading just right. This helpes explain why they are priced at a premium - but guitar connoisseurs know the value of UNIQUE and DISTINCTIVE accessories such as these!  We ship them in a protective cardboard tube, along with a piece of adhesive moleskin that you can cut into strips and stick inside the slide (on the bottom side, opposite the etched design) to size it to your finger.

Dimensions: 1-inch outside diameter, ~0.80-inch inside diameter (can vary from piece to piece - use included moleskin to size it to your finger), ~2.5-inches long. Made from real fully cured and bleached cow bone imported from abroad. Each slide varies slightly in dimensions and, being a natural product, may have surface occlusions and other minor anomalies that add to the character.
