Description

This poster features a reprint of the classic Edwin Forbes Civil War sketch of a Union soldier playing his "Figaros" cigar box fiddle while in winter camp. Forbes made this sketch while traveling with the Union army during the conflict, and later published it in 1876. It remains the earliest known depiction of a handmade instrument made from a cigar box, and now you can hang a copy in your home, workshop or music room. Ben "Gitty" Baker has carefully retouched the original full-resolution scan to make a strong, vibrant print that looks great on the brown kraft paper. He took special care to darken Forbes' signature and original "Home Sweet Home" text so that it stands out clearly against the background.

Your purchase of this inexpensive poster helps support our research and historical preservation work, ensuring that more gems like this will be re-discovered and made available to the homemade instrument community!
