VIDEOs & PHOTOS: Shane Speal's Radical Red G-Bass

Shane Speal was the first person to receive our "G-Bass" 2-string DIY Electric Bass Guitar Kit, and he posted photos and video of the completed project.

"The kit is easy enough to build on your dining room table," he said, "but I wanted to go hog-wild on the finish."

Speal says he worked on his G-Bass for an hour or two each night for 4 days.

"The glue and paint took the most time," he added.

The Radical Red Paint Job

Speal took inspiration from a 1950's Stella Sundale acoustic guitar which featured some seriously retro red and cream artwork.  

Speal traced the curtain design and made a template, which he then re-created using Rustoleum red and cream spray paint.

Mods & Hacks

In usual Shane Speal fashion, he did a few mods to the design and filmed it all.

First, he used a router to round the neck and heel as seen here.

Then he carefully taped off the frets and added several thick polyurethane coat for a nice glossy look.

Other than those mods listed above, Speal's G-Bass is stock.

Although the suggested tuning is G-D (like a G power chord), Speal prefers to tune his in 4ths, G-C.
